Showcase Postmortem! (Blog Update 5)
Hello! Welcome back to the latest blog post for Westgate! This blogpost is mainly going to serve as a postmortem summarizing our showcase experience and feedback, whilst totaling up some last minute things our wonderful team members contributed for the final build.
Overall, we feel pretty good about how showcase went! We got lots of great feedback not only on how we present the game but also on the game itself, and were given good ideas to really hone in on if we continue to work on this project in the future. (Which we have been discussing!)
I don't want to just transcribe the entire events of our time on stage, so if you'd like to see and hear how things went, here's a link to the livestream VOD! We went on stage at about the 21:52 timestamp.
Once our presentation was over and we were able to move out to the lobby, our team briefly chatted with some members of other teams present at showcase before most of our team took their leave a little early. Brady stayed more or less to man the booth and answer any questions people might've had about the game or about playtesting the build we had.
To avoid this becoming too long, we'll take just a brief run through of everything our team members did to help flesh out our final build and our presentation. All of our team members wrote up digital transcripts for their sections during the presentation to help Brady during the video editing process for both the trailer and the presentation. (Thank you so much for this btw! This really helped!) Whilst Brady himself worked on putting some final touches on the game in the days leading up to the trailer and presentation video submission date. Brady was able to get a Alucard-like dash working that lets you phase through enemies and their projectiles, adding an extra little bit of meat on the bone so to speak for the final build.
Alex finished her work on our character's sprites and created various promotional materials which can all be seen here:
Darren created our game's logo and finalized his work on the (unused) boss sprites!
And Nathan was able to finish sectioning out our big level into individual rooms for the final build.
All in all, we had a great time working on Westgate and feel very proud of what we were able to accomplish with the team size we had and the time we were given. As stated previously, we are seriously discussing working further on Westgate in the future! But first, I think we'd all like to take a break and decompress from the stress of the semester and enjoy, for what is for many of us, the end of our final semester. Personally speaking, I hope we all can come together again and passively work on this in our free time sometime this year, but only time will tell!
Thank you for reading and following us on this great journey we've had so far, and we hope to see you again soon! Take care!
