50% Milestone!


Today marks the 50% milestone for our capstone project! Team Western Dystopia has been hard at work creating and discussing various aspects related to character & level design, as well as our approach to environment art as a team.


Darren has taken on the role of our designated Environment Artist and has made a tile sheet for metal paths, which can be seen below:


Nathan created a more detailed map of the mine area with instructions on levers and other interactable objects. He also used some basic colors to give an idea of how areas might/should look. With the help of Brady, he is now working on blocking out the level in Game Maker and making sure that the player can actually traverse it. The finished level sketch for the mines can be seen below:







Alex continued to work on some basic main character design and has created a sprite sheet with standing and walking sprites. She also did a few sketches for the mine! All of these can be seen below:





Brady has been working on ranged weapon functionality that primarily utilizes the mouse for aiming, with features like manually adjustable fire rate, recoil, and weapon spread, whilst also assisting other team members with Aseprite and Game Maker as well as walking through the initial tiling process with Nathan. Some of the code written and a demonstration of what is playable in the game right now can be seen below:
